Dr. Moira

After graduation from veterinary college in 1987, I first worked in
Vancouver, B.C. for 4 years and then moved to Kelowna in 1990. I
purchased a practice there, started a family, bought a farm, bought
some llamas, horses, goats, chickens, and life was good. In or around
1997, my practice philosophy took quite a turn to one that encompassed
a more holistic bent. It started with learning more about vaccinations
for children, and the possibility that they weren’t all they were
cracked up to be, and it spread to the management of my patients. So I
sold the Rutland Pet Hospital in 1998, took a Professional Course in
Veterinary Homeopathy and started Pawsitive Veterinary Care in 2000. I
must say that this style of practice, the holistic approach, is far
more satisfying as a veterinarian than a strictly conventional approach
to health and disease. I can honestly say, subjectively, that those
individuals who follow our recommendations for vaccines, diets, and
choice of treatments for their pets ailments have some of the
healthiest pets I have ever seen on the whole. It is wonderful to see!
I would love to be able to play a role in the education process of
every pet owner around the globe and with this web site, that can be
accomplished. Feel free to invite others to the site and to link to
this site from your web site if it is a good fit.
Pawsitively yours,
Dr. Moira

My technician career started at age nine with a needle and thread
helping my dad suture up an injured puppy on my aunt’s kitchen
table. Since then I obtained my Animal Health Technologist and
Certified Dental Assistant diplomas. I have worked in veterinary
clinics in Calgary, Victoria and Kelowna helping out injured and sick
dogs, cats, lizards, birds and even owls and eagles. My favourite part
of my job is assisting in surgery.
My life has given me some unique opportunities such as climbing
the Chilcoot Pass trail, attending the Calgary Olympics closing
ceremonies, completing an Outward bound course and lots of traveling
and camping with my husband and two kids.
I have been with Pawsitive Veterinary care since 2003 and love
every day of it. Having tried alternative medical care for myself I
was interested to see how it worked on the animals. I have learned a
lot form Moria and continued to be amazed at the success stories of
animals we help.

I
became a member of the Pawsitive Vet family in July of 2009 when I moved
here from Edmonton. For as long as I can remember, my life has always revolved
around animals in some shape or form. Before I came to Kelowna, I worked in a large pet hospital for 2 years.
A veterinary clinic is by far the most fascinating and fun place to work! There
is never a dull moment! My animal and wildlife obsession has lead me to work on
the game reserves of South Africa, to volunteering at the Edmonton Zoo and the
Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. I have
also worked in my fair share of pet retail stores. I share my home with a very large fur baby named River, a
handsome Golden Retriever. On the side, I am also the clinic's resident dog
trainer! I have been training dogs and educating owners since August 2008! If all that doesn't keep me busy enough, I
am an active member in the Alopecia community.
Anything from being involved in online support sessions, web media
projects to continue to bring awareness and education to the public. Here is a
link to give you an idea of what it's all about! http://www.alopeciaworld.com/video/options-1

I have been working at Pawsitive Veterinary Care since July of 2010. As long as I can remember I have surrounded
my life with animals. I am a strong advocate for animals. I also have a
dedicated passion for helping and caring for them too! I operate the
Light Therapy Laser and also assist the Veterinarian with surgery and
appointments. In 2009 I became certified as a Reiki Master. As needed, I
will use Reiki Therapy to assist in the healing process of the clients.
Each day I learn and grow through my experiences here at the clinic.

I have lived, loved and worked with dogs for most of my life. But my
career with dogs started about 27 years ago when I was asked to manage
a boarding kennel. I was friends with the local dog control officer and
was appalled at how many dogs were being euthanized. I started bringing
the ones that were on death row back to the kennels. I would clean them
up, train them, and then find them homes. The owner of a grooming shop
seen one of these dogs I cleaned up, (I don’t think she liked his
haircut) and offered to teach me grooming. From there came pet
photography, doggy daycare, pet stores etc, etc, My real love though
has always been animal behaviour so I went back to school and became a
certified dog trainer. I loved what I was doing but I still wanted to
learn more, so this time I went back to school to become a vet
assistant. I spent 3 wonderful years working at Pawsitive Veterinary
Care.
I’ve recently relocated to Nakusp B.C. but will still be working with Dr Moira and her clients who have dog behavioral issues.
Most of the problems or questions can be handled over the phone or
through email. Or for those of you who will be in the area you have the
option of classes, private lessons or dropping your pet off for
boarding and training.
Kari I joined the Pawsitive Vet
team in August 2009 to operate the therapeutic laser machine. Getting
the chance to spend one on one time with owners and their pets to hear
and witness their journey together is very fulfilling! Also during this
time I have been pursuing and refining my skills in the Body Talk world.
The clinic is an amazing place to utilize the knowledge I have gained
and to learn everyday from pets and their owners. I offer another modality
for clients when they come in with their animal seeking help & guidance.
A Body talk appointment with an animal is very complimentary to Dr. Moira’s
holistic approach to veterinary medicine. I have two dogs Dexter a handsome
Dalmation and Kayley a tenacious Yorkshire Terrier that adventure with
me.
